The Elephant Restaurant was opened in September 2003.  Housed in two Georgian town houses overlooking the beautiful marina and harbour in Torquay it was the perfect setting for a restaurant that strives to be 'The Best in The Bay.'

The buildings have a long history and have been used as both a restaurant and a hotel in the past.  Those old enough to remember will recall The Hansome Cab restaurant and also the Beacon Quay Hotel which were both family run for many years.

Since then the buildings have been divided into flats in the 1980's and then a short stint as a care home before being vacant for some years during the 1990's.  When purchased, the buildings were in dire need of refurbishment inside to bring them back to their former glory.

Then came The Elephant.  A huge redevelopment and many frustrating months of work finally culminated in the opening in September 2003.

With a Brasserie style 70 seat restaurant downstairs and a luxurious bar with fantastic views upstairs, The Elephant became the place to dine and drink in Torquay.

Since then we have amassed numerous awards and reviews culminating in the award of a Michelin Star rating in the famous Red Guide in January 2006.
